Flight: Drawing Interpretations symposium

Date: Friday 24 May 2013
Time: 14:00 – 17:00
Location: RHS East Space, London College of Fashion, 20 John Princes Street, London W1G 0BJ

As a product of the Flight: Drawing Interpretations project, this symposium will explore the practice led research resulting from the close collaboration between the National Gallery and a number of practitioners from London College of Fashion, who work across the disciplines of art, fashion design, costume, photography and curation.
Drawing, as a means of investigating, thinking and articulating ideas has played a pivotal role in the research process. This symposium will investigate the way in which the methodology of drawing informs art, design, performance as well as the curatorial practice. It brings together the considerable variety of activities which includes examples of analogue and digital processes, live performance, film and installation.
The event will include: an introduction by Charlotte Hodes, Professor in Fine Art; a key note by Colin Wiggins, Special Project Curator; presentations by artists and fashion designers Dr. Jessica Bugg and Simon Thorogood, Senior Research Fellow, costume designer Agnes Treplin, and fashion curator Dr. Flavia Loscialpo, Senior Lecturer at Southampton University. Refreshments will be provided.
This symposium is in conjunction with the performance event Flight: Drawing Interpretations, a ‘Friday Late‘ taking place at the National Gallery on 14 June 2013. A multi disciplinary event by artists, fashion and costume designers featuring live performance, film and artefact. Responding to the theme of Flight, these new works have been created through the practice of drawing at the National Gallery over a period of a year. Produced in collaboration with the research department at London College of Fashion, University of the Arts London.
